Just yeah, you know, it's like in the JRPG, it's just you guys are the one tagging along. It's just like you guys are the main characters. He's the main character. He's the uh silent protagonist. Yeah. Let's just get into it then, yeah. Wagnu in Black Sky. After you uncovered the surprising truth that Mammu, the blacksmith, turned out to be the daughter of Silver Fist, you decided to visit the caged monkey spirit to ask more about the mysterious golden staff. But when you returned to the place where you were once imprisoned, you were shocked to find Shusui locked inside, disoriented, confused, and with no memory of how he ended up in Kaesh. After freeing him, though nearly setting him on fire, the three of you turned your attention to Hotali, the monkey spirit. Hotali confirmed that the one who had taken the staff was none other than Elder Sorfiz himself. With the help of a fellow dwarf, you managed to reach the chambers of elders and to persuade Zorfiz to lead you to the to where the staff was being kept. Sky, you decided that the instant that there might be danger, having the wind artifact back was crucial. And so you visited Mammu again and disrupted the forging process of the artifact. With a Nat 20, you were able to remove the artifact from the forge, something deemed impossible and dangerous. Hours of travel through the walls of Kaiash brought you to a massive crater. There, Silverfist admitted that he had thrown the staff down into its depths for safekeeping. Without hesitation, Sky Yu jumped straight down. Shusui Yu being the cautious one, stopped to ask if there was anything you should worry about. Silverfist warned that dangerous creatures lurked below, and swift it revealed that one of his arms was in truth a makeshift prosthetic. With that grim warning, Wagnu and Shusui followed suit into the molten depths. Amid swirling heat and volcanic fumes, you found the place where the staff had fallen. But before you could approach, a blazing fire elemental erupted from the darkness, and for the first time in a long while, the three of you fought side by side again. Shusui struck the final blow, ending the fight in a single precise motion. With the threat gone, Wagni Yu stepped forward and played Telai's whisper, the dragon horn flute, to cast identify. The staff shuddered and began to grow. It expanded far beyond the creator's mouth. Then you all heard the sound of drums, and with that followed by a tremor.

Uh yeah. Wagner, you uh you had cast to identify last session.

As you cast identify through your through your horn, I mean through your flute, water starts to fill your hearing. Every sound muffled. Uh it sounds like when you're under water and you can kind of hear a little bit. Through the distortion comes a calm voice. It's distant, but you can still hear it clearly. You hear it says to you, This staff bears the mark of the world's root. With that, you know that this staff is known as the golden staff of the world spine. It's a quarter staff and requires atonement by a monk, druid, or sorcerer. These are the abilities, mechanically, these are the abilities that you know. Um, it grants a plus one to attack and damage. It can grow or shrink five to sixty feet. When it grows, it creates a tremor. And it cannot be atoned while it belongs to someone else, even if it's far from them. The last thing is it can root into stone and become immovable. So that's all the information you get with your identify spell.

Awesome. Alright, and that was all from uh my identify cast, right?

Yes. So that's all before the um the the sound of drums started playing, and you all heard, all felt like a tremor where you're at.

This staff. This staff is I can't even begin to explain.

It's yeah, but it's it it's from something even stronger and more more ancient than I can even imagine. Wait. Black Sky Aren aren't you a sorcerer?

Yeah, but this looks a little too big to be a staff, if you ask me.

Right, right. I think you should try to. I don't know. I think you should try to to touch it, to take hold of it.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, I mean, if you say so. Alright, and then I will Yeah, I will try to s grab the staff with my bare hands.

Okay, um, this staff is like super big, and as you go to just touch it, what as soon as your hand makes contact with the staff, the staff just suddenly shrinks to the size of like almost like a baton. Ah, and it just drops to the ground.

Okay, yeah, no, I I didn't do that. I mean, can it grow on demand, Wagnu?

SPEAKER_03

I'm not sure, but I can't tell a lot from it. Doesn't seem to speak to me. Why don't you give it a try?

Alright, I'll I'll pick it up and like swing it around like a stick.

Uh you pick it up and you start swinging it like a stick, and to you it just feels like a normal stick. Um, give me a Arcana check. First row of the game, baby.

Unnatural 22. Okay, nice. Uh with a unnatural 22, you understand with your identify as well that the staff's magic has withdrawn itself in order to protect itself from something nearby.

Hmm. That's weird. It's kinda like the staff uh has a mind of its own or something. And kind of like it's scared of something. Huh. That's neat.

Wait, that's a good idea. Um hold it up. Do you feel any sort of energy coming from anywhere?

You hold it and to you it just feels like uh another like a little baton or another stick.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah. Um surely nothing. But what if what if we go back to the monkey?

Oh, that's a good idea. Before we go, um I'll cast detect magic just just to see if I can like get a sense of um any other like magical energies that's causing this.

Okay. Um that's a level one spell slot, right?

Okay. You cast detect magic, and you obviously feel the magic coming from the golden sapph that Sky is holding. You also feel a similar magical feeling that you're at this point you're used to feeling on your body. Um coming from the direction that you had the opposite direction when you the three of you had fallen through.

Okay, you the three of you make your way back to um where you had jump across to get to where the staff was. And as you get here, Wagnu, you do feel the pull and the feeling from earlier. It's a little stronger now, it's getting closer.

Okay, so the way Featherfall works is if when you're falling from somewhere, it helps you make kind of like you just kind of float down instead.

You never really had a ch like a chance to look at Sky closely, and while you're pulling him up, you suddenly feel like his whole weight. But thanks to his featherfall ability, there's like a little push, and he does it does help you manage you you do manage to bring him up back to the um back on top.

The distance, the gap is not as wide, and it'd probably be a little easier for you to go across.

Alright, so as soon as you cross over the bridge and you take that that entrance, uh, you find yourself in a more enclosed area. You from where you are, you can obviously see that there seems to be two paths. Uh one to your right and one just straight ahead. And then in the center in front of you, there seems to be like a few um uh pillars of magma volcanic pillars, and also seems to be like another little gap with just lava magma flow flowing through.

Um but being someone who is well adept and magic as well, you know that because you are not attuned to this item, you're not able to use it in the way that you wanted to. So it's you right now as you're waving it around. It's just a normal stick.

14. As you kind of get ahead of Wagnu, you notice with your passive perception, like on the corner of your eye, on the walls, there seems to be like like markings, etchings on there.

Um so as you approach these markings after Shusui tells you about it, you start to see in the Dwarbin writing how it talks about how dwarves would come down here as a rite of passage. You also see below those, you'll see like names of the dwarves, or names of those who has come down here. And the one that stands out to you the most is a name that goes by Silver Fist.

Alright. I know for sure this is dwarvish. Um. And then I'll kind of motion over to Black Sky and choose. Like this part here says that it's something of a a trial or rite of passage. And here are just a bunch of oh, these are names. I recognize this one. This is Silverfist.

Twenty-one, okay. You start to just kind of move along with the writings to the side a little bit. Uh you move to your left, and as you're moving down, you start to see more names, and then you start to see like burnt fingerprints, burnt um splashes of what seems to be like burnt blood.

Oh shit you're both uh just right in it uh you guys need to succeed on a dexterity 15 saving throw all right man do enough of these I'm bound to fail goddamn nope not this one 19 oh my god two let's go I mean I still might die guys so it's 5d8 fire damage oh my girl that's elephant oh wait there's more it's 5d8 bludging damage from the rocks yeah I'm not surviving this I'm going up in style though that's 16 damage yeah I'm down that's 36 of damage does it does it doubles anyone's health uh max or current what double max or curve max oh no no good because otherwise you'd just be dead um but with that yeah the guardian does all was down but frost alright frost is licking Wagnu Wagnu give me the last saving throw for you to see if you come up or not you get advantage this do I still get advantage for okay perfect come on come on okay that one was bad but this one this is the advantage come on 19 alright we're in we're in boss is licking you wagnu and you start to get up and when you get up you get a bright in time where everything just flashes white you get a bright in time to see the explosion happened the cave starts to cave in the volcano starts to cave in debris falling everywhere the blast is it's almost like it's not sound it's um a pressure that pushes you down tremors start to happen the whole area starts to shake the mountain walls the the walls of this volcano this cave starts to just fall down with it and you see Sky and Shusui's lifeless body as they fall down where they're standing they fall down and when they hit the ground it just crumbles and you see them just fall into darkness you heard you just quickly go there to try to hang on what are you doing alright first thing first things first can I use second win yeah sure you can use second win alright first things first because um I just came back with one HP so I'm pretty much giving you a react because right now it's like um that explosion from the guardian create like a crater so now you can have a chance as you it's a quick second as you uh see sky and shisui falling down just healing word one of us alright yeah I gotta cast second win first I don't I don't even have the slots dude that's the sad part okay alright so my second wind it only heals me for four that's crazy okay okay and then I'm gonna walk over to Shisui and then I can still uh like pick the crack no they're falling down there's a crater in the death second that had a uh formed from the explosion so they're falling down to darkness right now you have a I think you have a quick second to just go grab or do something to reach them gotcha I'll go and grab Shisui right before you go Frost okay get black sky go Frost go get black sky you go and you reach out to Shusui you hold on to Shusui's uh currently unconscious body give me a athletics check a sky you continue following down I got a 23 for the athletic check 23 okay and you manage to just pull Shusui in towards you almost in like into a hug and then you kinda just put him to the side and sky I'm a you just keep falling and falling you hear the sound of drums this time the tremors they don't stop and then there's one last line one last voice you hear until your cons before your consciousness fades away you hear dnuff um oi and that's where we'll stop for tonight.

Um I don't know why my brain just keeps like reverting to con saves but I realized I I had some cons saves in there where they should have been dexterity saves instead and I just wanted to apologize for all the DD vets who are who may be listening hopefully it didn't take you out of the immersion um I am always trying to improve so if you're a DD vet and if you're listening to this if you ever notice anything where I may mess up as a DM um feel free to just give me some critiques, some tips here and there. I promise I will take everything into consideration I'm always looking for ways to improve myself as a DM and as a storyteller.
